The spines are faded on a few of them.Ī Story of Adventure in Florida. Books without the Brentano sticker were probably bought as used books and are noted as "Not Brentano." These thirty-five books are generally in very good condition. The dates given for the books, for example "1906 ", means the book was printed in 1906 and originally published in 1890. Almost all of these books are later printings. In summary: Munroe signed thirty of Rockefeller's thirty-two books and three books have been added to the collection. Three books were missing from what would be a complete collection of thirty-five books and (unsigned) copies have been supplied. Munroe somehow missed signing two of the books. The books are listed in the order of original publication. Rockefeller married Nancy Carnegie, a grandniece of Andrew Carnegie, in 1925. His great-grandfather and grandfather had also been presidents of this bank. He went into banking and later was President (1952-1967) of what is now called Citigroup. He is the youngest person to ever appear on the cover of Time Magazine. He graduated from Yale and earned a gold medal in rowing at the Summer Olympics in 1924. Rockefeller was a great-nephew of John D. He had the books sent down and Munroe signed each of the books "Truly your friend / Kirk Munroe / Apr 10, 1920". Obviously in the 1920 visit the young Stillman thought to get his collection signed by the author who was a close neighbor of Camp Biscayne. The family also visited in 1916, 1919, and 1920.

He dutifully wrote his name in each book and dated it "Dec 25 1914". Then, he liked the book so much that someone bought him a Christmas gift of thirty-one books by Munroe. He was given a copy of THE FLAMINGO FEATHER. This collection was assembled by a child named James Stillman Rockefeller (1902-2004). These books were signed by the collector and by the author.
